This oil is called an "absolute" as it is made using a different process from essential oils, which are generally made using steam distillation and sometimes cold pressing. If you want to know more about its process, you can read my article about it here.
Absolute oils are typically heavier oils than essential oils meaning they are more viscous and have a stronger scent. This absolute is no exception. A very small number of drops add a strong scent to oils, so you only need very little of it to have a big impact.
There is something mesmerising about Blue Water Lily. Obviously the plant itself is captivatingly beautiful, however, the scent has a similar effect. It was once known as the "Cannabis of Egypt" and reputedly used to induce hallucinations. While that's not how I would suggest using it, there is undeniably something "other worldly" about its aroma which I think is well described as simultaneously calming and grounding.
This summary review of research into the properties of a variety of lily extracts of the same genus (Nymphaea) has found that they are helpful for skin health. This research paper is for a different species within the same genus has found it is capable of hydrating skin, reducing wrinkle formation and reducing oxidative stress. While I couldn't find any research that specifically showed these qualities for this genus, I strongly suspect that the similarities within the genus means that Blue Water Lily has these properties too. I have included it in the "Rebirth" serum as, combined with the citrus scents, it makes for a wonderfully rejuvenating blend for skin health.
I find many people love the scent and qualities it brings to any blend and it allows them to deeply relax while remaining grounded and alert. I hope it does that for you!
