I first discovered Black African Soap in a market in London. I had seen similar soaps in a small local shop, however, it was hard and fragranced with something synthetic and I didn't like it.
This soft, fresh soap, however, quite blew me away. I was amazed to find it only contained plant matter and was created simply using human force and fire - what a combination!
Once I tried it, I was hooked. It's both deeply cleansing and gentle. Many people find they can't use it on their face more than once or twice a week, however, other parts of their body are fine with daily use. Personally, I love it for cleaning my back and, if I travel and forget it, it's always something I look forward to when I get home.
Many people find its particularly useful for skin with acne or eczema. Given it only contains plants, it might be that this lack of irritation is due to the lack of synthetic chemicals. I cannot say for sure what makes it such a powerful yet gentle cleanser, but I can testify it gives great results for many people who use it.
While I can't make it, I am happy that it's fairly easy to buy it in the UK and, although the versions I stock might change depending on the comings and goings of wholesalers, I can assure you that I will try all stock I sell and ensure it's fantastic to use before selling it.
Surprisingly, it's also great as a cleaner, so if you have limescale covered shower walls or doors made of glass or Perspex, it's unbeatable and all with extremely little effort - just lather it on and rinse it off.
If you haven't tried it before, I really recommend it - even if not for your skin, then certainly for your shower door!
